PS4 Release Date News: Pre-orders For Sony’s Next Gen Console Already Reached 1.5 Million; PlayStation Camera Removed To Keep Costs Low

Weeks ahead of the PS4 release date, Sony announces a significant milestone achieved by the next-generation console.

PS4 release date will not happen until the 15th of November in the US but according to Sony, the pre-orders for the highly-anticipated console are already crossing the 1.5 million mark, as reported by International Business Times. Sony has told before that the number of PlayStation 4 pre-orders already reached 1 million since the E3 2013 event that occurred in June, while still not revealing the specific figure.

However, according to Michael Pachter, an industry analyst, Sony might face a supply issue for the PlayStation 4. This is because of the huge demand for the console, he told during a recent episode of Geoff Keighley's Bonus Round.

Pachter shared, as cited on IB Times, "(Sony's) been pretty flawless so far. Everything they've said about PSN has been pretty flawless, and it sounds like there's value for the cost (of PS4)."

One of the factors that could add to the huge demand seen for the console, even before the PS4 release date in the market approaches, is the lower price it offers. PS4 price is set at $399, basically $100 cheaper than its direct competitor, the Microsoft Xbox One.

And this huge difference in the pricing was a result of Sony's decision to take out the PlayStation Camera out of the basic bundle for the PS4.

Trusted Reviews posted that Sony originally planned on including the PlayStation Camera on the PS4 box. The camera offers voice and motion sensing technology, similar to what the Xbox One Kinect. As the post reads, "The PS4 camera was removed in order to keep the console below the £350 ($400) asking price and not lose too much money in the process."

The official PS4 release date in US and Canada is already set for November 15, while European, Australian games, as those from New Zealand will be able to grab their units on November 29.
