Miley Cyrus Liam Hemsworth Break Up: Wrecking Ball Lyrics Written During Relationship? Fans Unsure When Song About Split Was Written

Miley Cyrus' hit single "Wrecking Ball" has captured the attention of fans around the world, especially for its ominous references to her relationship with ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth, but many are left wondering how far back she wrote the song.

Rumors suggest that the couple was split up for several months before it was announced and but the final straw in their relationship was when Liam Hemsworth was left mortified after Miley Cyrus' performance at the VMAs 2013.

"Miley and Liam were already pretty much broken up at that point, but when he saw her performance and the backlash it created, it was the nail in the coffin," a source exclusively told Radar.

"That was all he needed to finally break up with Miley once and for all. He was embarrassed, disgusted and mortified by her performance."

Liam Hemsworth's sister-in-law Elsa Pataky urged him to break up with Miley Cyrus for over a year, Radar Online also reports.

Elsa, the wife of Liam's big brother, Chris Hemsworth, "is no fan of Miley," a source close to the Hemsworth family told the website.

"She spent the last year freezing Miley out in some kind of passive-agressive move."

"Elsa is totally against Miley and Liam getting back together. Miley desperately wants to get back with Liam and believes she can because she's done it before," the source insists. "But to do that, she's going to have to win over Elsa!"

Miley Cyrus was interviewed on the "Today" show on Monday and performed her hit single "We Can't Stop," showing off her twerking skills, leaving many wondering if she's already over her break up with Liam Hemsworth.

Liam Hemsworth's ex-fiancé told host Matt Lauer that she's the happiest she's been since her split and that she's doing a lot better.

But Miley Cyrus also hosted Saturday Night live last weekend and avoided making jokes about her ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth, leaving many fans wondering if she's still in love with the "Hunger Games" star.

"She thought it wouldn't be classy at the end of the day to talk about Liam and left him out it," a source told HollywoodLife.com
