Android 4.4 KitKat Released Date: Nestle’s Germany Division Confirmed That OS Will Arrive This Month, Free Nexus 7 From Google Partner Might Have KitKat Out Of The Box

If there’s one thing we definitely know about the Android 4.4 is that it’s a project that involves the Nestle company, thanks to the KitKat moniker that the food giant lent the tech titan for its newest set of sweet OS.

In a report by ZDNET, Nestle Germany’s Facebook wall recently posted information confirming an October release date for the Android 4.4 KitKat. This effectively puts all rumors to rest on when the software will be launched. The speculated time frame for the release date is October 15 or next Tuesday, but there have been no press invites for an event at the time of this writing.

Nestle will be giving away free Nexus 7 tablets in the coming weeks, although still unconfirmed, it’s very likely that the promo devices will have the Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. According to ZDNet, despite Google having notched up one billion Android activations to date, the partnership with Nestle on the Android is meant to make it more mainstream than it already is.

Last week, Gadget Helpline published information and images of what is believed to be the unfinished version of KitKat and with the markings of the original name, Key Lime Pie, reported ZDNet. Gadget Helpline said that the KitKat OS is not a complete overhaul of Jelly Bean, but a more polished, smoother and faster version.

Other new features of the Android KitKat include a native printing option for Android devices and a payment feature that hints built-in NFC payments, instead of third-party apps. There’s also a Miracast-based feature for wireless video output to TVs and may bring a few minor changes to to the dialler pad, such as white notifications instead of blue ones.

ZDNet pointed out that beyond Google’s core apps, information leaks on Android KitKat features suggest that Google’s productivity apps such as Keep, Drive and QuickOffice will all have a prominent place in the new OS.
