Robin Thicke Blames Miley Cyrus For VMA Controversy; Says To Ophrah Winfrey ‘I’m Twerked Upon. I Don’t Twerk Myself’

Robin Thicke blamed Miley Cyrus for the VMA controversy, saying that he did not realize what The Wrecking Ball singer was up to.

Robin Thicke appeared on Oprah’s Next Chapter as the celebrity guest and among other things, answered Oprah’s questions on the VMA controversy.

When Oprah asked him if he didn’t think that the performance was sexual in nature, Thicke responded by saying, “Well, I was on stage, I didn’t see it, you know. So to me, I’m walking out towards Miley, I’m not thinking ‘sex,’ I’m thinking ‘fun.’ So I’m sitting there, I’m looking up to the sky, I’m singing. I’m not really paying attention to all that. That’s on her.”

He further clarified his stand on the matter, “ People ask me, ‘Do you twerk?’ I’m like, ‘Listen, I’m the twerkee. I’m twerked upon. I don’t twerk myself, okay? I’m just twerked upon.”

Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance with Robin Thicke generated a lot of hoopla as the 20-something ‘Bangerz’ artist went down ‘twerking’ on the singer.

While Cyrus has been quite candid about the whole thing all along, this is the first time that Robin Thicke has spoken on the VMA performance. His presence on Oprah’s Next Chapter coincided with the release of his latest “Blurred Lines.”

Meanwhile, Blurred Lines has received mixed reviews from different circles, with University of Nottingham Student’s Union banning the song from its campus’ radio playlist altogether.

The feminist groups have criticized it as being sexist in nature. Thicke’s Blurred Lines is also condemned as promoting myths related to rape and other forms of sexual violence.

In his defense, Thicke said to BBC that the song does not promote rape at all and that people have not understood the song.

"I don't think people got it out here in those positions of power,” said Thicke.
