Eminem Releases New Single 'Rap God' From His 'Marshall Mathers LP 2' Due Out In November: What The Critics Are Saying [AUDIO]

Eminem released the new single “Rap God” the third single from Eminem's upcoming "The Marshall Mathers LP 2"

"The Marshall Mathers LP2” is the first record Eminem has released since Recover in 2010.

The new Eminem album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" album goes on sale on Nov. 5.

Eminem released "Rap God," on Monday. By Tuesday afternoon, Eminem's "Rap God,it racked up close to 3 million views on his YouTube channel. Critics are mixed.

Rolling Stone magazine says “Eminem has clearly evolved from the quick-witted, soul-crushing battle rapper who first caught the attention of Dr. Dre in the late 1990s, but old habits are hard to break. Monday's release of "Rap God" proves that no matter how many radio-busting chart-toppers Marshall 2.0 can churn out ("Not Afraid," "Love the Way You Lie"), Em just loves to rhyme.”

Spin Magazine doesn't think Eminem brought anything new to the table with the track. “Eminem Is No 'Rap God' on Six-Minute 'MMLP2' Single. … There's that whole Yeezus album you may have heard something about, of course. But while Kanye West makes the point that he's bigger than any single medium — he's a god god — Mr. Mathers seems to know where his own legacy lies: he's great at rapping, and not necessarily much else.”

Jonathan Sawyer from HyperTrak says “In a day and age when seemingly every hip-hop artist thinks they are some kind of higher power, Eminem comes through accordingly with his entry, aptly titled "Rap God." That's right, as expected, the rap veteran showcases his rapid flow on the fresh cut that is to be featured on his much-anticipated The Marshall Mathers LP 2. Yeah, we think this one will be subject to a fair amount of criticism, but one thing remains certain, Em can still lyrically slay when he wants to. His us with your thoughts, though, after streaming "Rap God" below. The Marshall Mathers LP 2 arrives on November 5.”

Towleroad says The song is bad enough — but even more disheartening has been the way that so many websites have praised Eminem's rapping on "Rap God" while ignoring the song's problematic lyrics entirely. Time called the single "divine." Rolling Stone analyzed the song's influences without commenting on its content. MTV News took the time to collect Eminem's array of pop-cultural references without noting his homophobia.
