Miley Cyrus is singing molly lyrics again, and once again it's got people up in arms about her reference to the deadly illegal drug MDMA.
In the new French Montana song, Miley Cyrus raps the lyric: "Popped a molly and you know, you know you'll never stop, you think I'm turnt up, wait until my album drops."

Miley Cyrus first sang about "molly" in her lyrics for "We Can't Stop", her hit song of the summer, which she performed at the MTV VMA's.  When Miley was asked about the word "molly", she gave a coy response to explain her lyric "Dancing with Molly":

"If you're aged 10 [the lyric is] Miley.  If you know what I'm talking about, then you know."

"I don't think people have a hard time understanding that I've grown up."

"You can Google me and you know what I'm up to - you know what the lyric is saying."

Molly is another word for the drug MDMA, or 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine.  It is an "empathogenic" drug that can cause euphoria, a sense of intimacy with others, and diminished anxiety.  While MDMA is an illegal Schedule 1 substance in the US, it is also being studied for its potential use for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.  MDMA was used in therapeutic practice before it was made illegal.  As an illegal drug, it has been a drug of choice for "rave" culture. 

Miley also dismissed peoples' concern about the Molly MDMA drug reference in We Can't Stop, saying:

"I just think the world is so lame because you can shoot people in a movie and you can let people like [George] Zimmerman off on trial, but you can't have someone going like this [Cyrus stimulates oral sex gesture].  That is so dumb to me."

"The last thing people need to worry about is my cute little video for 'We Can't Stop,' you know what I mean?"
