The rage of Silas continues in 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Episode 2 entitled 'True Lies' and it's focused on one person - Katherine Pierce.  In the latest season of the vampire series, new faces and new mysteries have surfaced.

As Elena Gilbert starts her journey as a freshman college, Damon Salvatore is at home doing his best to search for his tormented brother, Stefan. He tries hard to keep things away from Elena including the threat of Silas and Jeremy Gilbert's near death due to a car accident because he knows her tendency to worry so much.  Damon forms an unexpected partnership with Sheriff Elizabeth Forbes in an aspiration to rescue the younger Salvatore.

Jeremy and Matt Donovan also exert effort to hide the now human Katherine from Silas. However, the two cannot help but think their decision especially with Katherine complaining about the weakness and vulnerability that comes with being a mortal.

For Elena and Caroline Forbes, college should be an exciting experience not until their roommate mysteriously died in the first episode. The two ended up in the wrong class under a "creepy but hottie" professor Dr. Wes Maxfield. Before they were kicked out, the professor hinted his penchant for the town's history.

Silas, who's still living in Stefan's body, also decided to play a mind game involving Elena and Damon. The 2,000-year-old supernatural creature revealed everything that Damon's been hiding.  Silas then used Elena's anger to persuade her to kill Damon.
Elena was about to kill Damon but the latter immediately figured out what was going on. He tried to stop sway Elena's compulsion by making her think passionately about Stefan.

Caroline is having problems with Tyler Lockwood but that did not stop her from being admired.  College guy Jesse had a brief moment with her at the bonfire party. Elene was similarly able to pick up information from Jesse regarding the mysterious professor, Dr. Maxfield.

Jeremy enlists his skills as a hunter to distract Silas when he tracked the trio. Silas temporarily (thanks to the supernatural ring) killed Matt and just as Silas was about to get away, Katherine shot him twice. With the temporary death of Silas, they were able to escape from him.

During Matt's death, he met Bonnie on the "other side". He finally realized that Bonnie's dead and encouraged her never to give up: "How can you deal with his death if you can't deal with your own?"
 

Stefan is finally out from the underwater trap and his comeback will be marked by blood. The teaser for 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Episode 3 shows a Stefan devouring a mortal. Does it mean that the ripper is back?
