2014 FedEx Cup: Dustin Johnson Takes Home HSBC Golf Championship For His “Biggest Career Win So Far”, Preview Of The New PGA Season

Dustin Johnson's game falls down in the front nine and picks himself up in the back to back the first notable win for the 2014 FedEx Cup taking home the HSBC Golf Championship in Shanghai.

"It's the biggest win I've had in my career so far," Johnson said. "Those guys put a lot of pressure on me. I'm really proud of the way I handled myself."

With only six holes left to play and one stroke behind Ian Poulter, the American golfer hit an astonishing drive in a dogleg which left him a short wedge shot to put the ball close to the pin that gave him an easy birdie followed by a feet birdie and a chip-in eagle to bag the crown.

"He trenches one 350 down the middle and has the hands to that 70-yard shot to the front pin and make the putt," Graeme McDowell who at one point shared the lead with Johnson said. "He's just a quality, talented, very athletic, classy player. Yeah, he makes mistakes. But when you've got a game as good as him, you can get away with a few mistakes. He's just got a great wedge game to go with just an outrageously good driving game."

During the champion's struggle in the front nine paved the way for the second and third placer to play catch up. He said that he played the game calmly and did not let the game get into his head.

"The first five holes were not fun," Johnson said. "I wasn't having too much fun at the start, especially when Graeme and Ian were birdieing every hole, it seemed like. But I knew I just needed to keep playing my game."

Last year's HSBC champion, Ian Poulter, was a little disappointed for not getting the crown back to his hands this year but was still impressed with himself for playing an impressive weekend of golf.

"A little disappointed not to put my hands back on the trophy," said the English golfer. "But 15 birdies and an eagle at the weekend is some pretty good golf. Dustin finished the job. It was good golf and it was good fun to play in that group."

This tournament is the fourth for the 2013-2014 FedEx Cup that now ranks Johnson at the third spot after the win. The 29-year old golfer said that if he continues to play like he did he mightget his first major title this season.

"You know what?" Dustin said. "If I play like I did this week, I'm going to win one, for sure."
