Eminem And Taylor Swift Win Top Honors At First-Ever YouTube Awards In Wacky, Anything Goes Ceremony

The first ever YouTube Music Awards ( YTMA)were live streamed to millions of audiences on Sunday,  November 3, 2013 from Pier 36, in New York.

Hosted by Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts, the non-scripted 90 minutes long event saw performances by Arcade Fire featuring Greta Gerwig and Mother Monster Lady Gaga, among others.

While Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, won the YTMA'13 for YouTube Artist of the Year, Taylor Swift clinched the trophy for YouTube Phenomenon for 'I Knew You Were Trouble.'

The K-Pop band Girls' Generation battled it out with the Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and other music industry favorites to take home the YouTube Video of the Year Award for their work "I Got a Boy."

Other winners include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for YouTube Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix won Response of the Year for 'Radioactive' and DeStorm won Innovation of the Year award for 'See Me Standing.'

Arcade Fire opened the show with their live video on song 'Afterlife', featuring Greta Gerwig. Lady Gaga followed next in Trucker's cap and a plaid shirt. The 'Born This Way' singer performed the brand new single 'Dope' from her new album ArtPop.

The heart-stirring rendition of Dope stirred real tears in Lady Gaga's eyes, which the new Venus revealed midway through her performance when she removed her sunglasses. Other live video performances include 'Rap God' by Eminem, 'Sasquatch' by Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler, and a short film featuring Avicii in the role of a dapper dumb guy.

Schwartzman and Watts' impromptu hosting gig, guided only by pointers on their notecards, was as creative as it could get, complemented by Arcade Fire Win Butler's humor laden gimmicks. When Taylor Swift stepped on stage to collect the trophy of Swift's behalf, Butler ran to the stage ala Kanye West style at the MTV Awards.
