NBA Trade Rumors – Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young Expect Trade From 76ers; Team’s Incredible Run Increases Market Value For Its Players

NBA strategy can sometimes defy logic and common sense. It might be surprising for most casual fans, but in some cases winning is not necessarily a good thing. In fact, winning can get you traded.

In their pre-season review, Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose of Grantland rated the Philadelphia 76ers dead last for the season. They called the 76ers moves as the most brazen tanking effort in basketball history.

The duo also predicted that the Sixers would trade their useful assets. Those assets are Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young. They have already traded their top player, Jrue Holiday. This is to ensure that the team will get the lowest record and have the best chance of getting the first overall pick of next year's draft.

The writing is clearly on the wall. Evan Turner was from the 2010 draft class. Their batch is due for contract extensions and the deadline passed on October 31. As Turner himself revealed, there were no talks at all. Nothing was ever initiated.

Thaddeus Young is under contract but will likely be traded. Possible destinations are teams which want to win now. Teams that are willing to part with the treasured first round pick of 2014. The Chicago Bulls have assets that may interest the 76ers. The Bulls are just a few building blocks away from taking the title. Turner and Young can help them get there.

While the 3-0 start of the Sixers has led many to cross out the Sixers from the tanking list, a loss to the Warriors sent them crashing to reality. However, the 3 wins may have augmented the market value of their players, specifically Turner who was seen as a draft bust.

The Sixers' GM Sam Hinkie has tried to 'sell' the idea of tanking to his fan base. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer:  "Our fans want to play meaningful games in late April and mid-May and late May and someday June. It's what I want most, and a lot of life is about sacrificing what you want now for what you want most."

"All our focus is on building something special for the Sixers, building a team that could in time be interesting. It's what we all want, all of us. That's why every coach agreed to come. That's why the owners love owning the Sixers. It's the chance to win at the highest level. It's no secret that doesn't happen overnight.

"If you said, 'I want to win the Ironman Triathlon,' it's not enough just to say that. It's not enough just to want that. You have to put in the work required to make that happen. You have to be willing to do all the things necessary. That doesn't seem odd to me at all."
