Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Release For Samsung S3 Rolls Out Via OTA, Features Updated GPU, Galaxy Gear Support, Voice Controls

The Galaxy S3 is over a year old, but it managed to get the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean release from Samsung, which started rolling out via OTA yesterday.

In a report by GSM Arena, the changelogs for the update were listed for a more convenient view. In case you have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and you haven't made up your mind whether to get the Android 4.3 update or not, here are some of the features you'd get if you give it a go:

  • GALAXY GEAR Support
  • TRIM Support (faster UI)
  • ANT+ Support
  • Core UI elements get the new TouchWiz look (not widgets and icons though)
  • New Samsung Keyboard
  • GPU drivers have been updated
  • New Lockscreen: Multiple Widgets, improved ripple effect than Android 4.1.2, ability to change clock size and set a personal message
  • New Display modes: Adapt Display and Professional Photo
  • Daydream
  • Driving mode
  • Actionable notifications
  • Move-to-SD-card feature
  • New Camera mode : Sound and Shot
  • New Additions in Notification Center
  • Tabbed Settings UI
  • Implementation of Voice controls
  • New Samsung Apps: Calculator, Clock, Contacts, Gallery, Music
  • Full screen Samsung apps
  • New S-Voice

As you can see, there are a lot of new features which Android 4.3 Jelly Bean brings to the old flagship. A couple of days back, a leaked 4.3 build for the S3 surfaced but tech blogs were skeptic that it was the new version due to old TouchWiz widgets and design. It turned out though, that the leak was in fact accurate.

If you plan on updating your Samsung Galaxy S3 to the latest version available, you may need to clear out some memory from your SD card as it weighs about 932MB.

Remember that once you update, you will never be able to revert back to the previous version, unless you have rooted your device and flashed a new ROM.
