Katy Perry's fans must have been feeling the heat from the angry "Beliebers" for dethroning their beloved Justin Bieber as Twitter's most popular person for nine months.

The "Roar" singer has 46,602,525 million followers edging out the "Bad Day" singer with 46,548,420 million followers.

Bieber has taken over the spot from Lady Gaga's two-year reign, nine months ago.

Perry is not just ousting Bieber at Twitter she is also beating the 19-year old singer on Facebook, having over 59 million friends to the "Boyfriend" singer's 57.28 million.

Musicians seem to be very powerful in the micro blogging site, having four of the five most followed users. Following Bieber from the second spot is Lady Gaga who has gotten 40,411,863 million followers then followed by the only non-musician in the ranking US president Barack Obama with 39,335,721 million followers and the fifth spot goes to non-other than the very famous county musician Taylor Swift having 36,307,097 million followers.

Today's number of social media followers are so distant compared four years ago, the time when pop icon Britney Spears, comedian actor Ashton Kutcher and CNN were competing for the first Twitter account to hit 1 million followers, where in Kutcher won.

During one of her interviews with USA Today the "Firework" hit maker shared her social media strategy saying, "I have horrible typos. I use 'there' or 'your' wrong grammatically. But I feel like I've learned how to tame that social media dragon."

She even expressed her thoughts on how other famous people should use or not use the micro blogging social media site, when it comes to defending yourself from rumors that it.

"I see a lot of celebrities send out messages like that online, and I think, 'Sweetheart, nobody knows about this so-called issue because we don't have you on Google Alert.

You're just throwing another log on the fire'. I do it only in extreme cases if someone is jeopardising my character," she explained.

In addition the "Roar" singer shared an advice to fellow celebrities saying, "When you decide to have a glass of wine, put the phone down. Don't drink and tweet. Don't be self-indulgent. Don't use it just to promote yourself. That's boring."
