Miss World 2013 winner Megan Young, 23, suffered an accident while visiting an orphanage in Haiti on October 31. The beauty queen together with Miss World Organization Chairman, Julia Morley, fell when the floor of the orphanage’s temporary second story collapsed.

The floor collapsed after about 20 children (out of the 78) who live in the orphanage rushed towards the reigning beauty queen when she entered the floor.

Fortunately, Young suffered minor injuries with only cuts and bruises according to The Miss World official website. However, Julia Morley suffered from a major fracture on her hip. The Miss World Chairman was said to be “in agony” after the fall. She was immediately rushed to Miami to have a surgery, which went well according to reports.

One of the students in the orphanage, Jonathan, was also reported to suffer from a major leg fracture. Jonathan was also rushed to the local hospital and the doctors were able to repair the fracture.

Young recalled the incident and said, “We went into the orphanage hoping for a good day. I was happy that day and the children we were with seemed so full of energy and joy. We get onto this second floor platform, and we aren't even there for a minute and we hear a crack and everybody falls through.”
The Miss World 2013 winner also admitted that it was a frightening event for her.

According to the beauty queen, “It was such a scary situation for me. it makes you realise there is so much more that should be done for these kids. it's not the only orphanage out here in Port au Prince, and I am sure others are in a similar state.”

She further added, “It was a real eye opener and just shows how much work needs to be done in Haiti. I want to go back and continue with the work that we have started, and make sure nothing like this can happen again."

Young also wishes for Julia’s fast recovery as well as the young boy Jonathan.

Because of this event, Megan Young’s eyes were opened and realized that there are still a lot of things she can do. The actress/beauty queen promises to return to Haiti to finish the work she started there.

“I will return to Haiti as soon as I am well enough. There is a lot of work still to do. I want to go back and see the kids and to check on Jonathan's progress. This terrible accident highlights the continued need to provide a safe environment for these young kids. Many of them were themselves orphaned as a result of buildings collapsing during the terrible earthquake of 2010.”

Aside from Haiti, the Miss World 2013 winner Megan Young will also visit about 30 countries as part of her duty as the reigning Miss World 2013. Megan Young hopes to be the best Miss World.
