'Call Of Duty: Ghosts' Download Release Date Available Today; $1 Billion Worth Of ‘CoD: Ghosts’ Copies Shipped To Stores

"Call of Duty: Ghosts" is available for download today through the Xbox Games Store, with a release date of Nov. 5. "Call of Duty: Ghosts" is the first Xbox 360 game to be offered for download on the same day and date as the retail version.

The "Call of Duty: Ghosts" download version for the Xbox 360 sells for $60, the same price as the boxed copy. The download will take up 7.51GB of hard drive space, according to the listing, GameSpot reports.

"Call of Duty: Ghosts" for PlayStation 3 is also available through the PlayStation Store today for $60 as part of Sony's Day 1 Digital campaign.

All Xbox One games will be available digitally day-and-date with their retail counterparts, including "Call of Duty: Ghosts," which hits Microsoft's next-generation console as a launch title on November 22, GameSpot reports.

In comparison, the Playstation 3 has been offering digital downloads for games on launch day for a while now. The Xbox 360 has been offering digital downloads for games after they launch, WinBeta reports.

Why is "Call of Duty: Ghosts" available digitally for download? WinBeta reports a big reason is due to the upgrade program; Microsoft is offering players who purchase "CoD: Ghosts" for Xbox 360 a $10 upgrade to the Xbox One version when it launches on November 22. The Xbox One version, as we previously mentioned, will also be a digital download.

Meanwhile, Activision has announced they shipped more than $1 billion worth of copies of "Call of Duty: Ghosts" to retail outlets across the world for the game's launch, Warp Zoned reports.

However, this $1 billion figure doesn't even include download revenues from "Ghosts."

CEO Bobby Kotick reported that Ghosts is GameStop's "most pre-reserved next gen title."

Kotick also told reporters, "The [Call of Duty] franchise has never been more popular."
