‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Casting News: Joseph Gatt Not Cast As Styr, Magnar of Thenn; Russian Actor Takes The Role

"Game of Thrones" season 4 casting news: Joseph Gatt, star of "Banshee," will not be cast as Styr, Magnar of Thenn. Instead, a Russian actor was cast in the role for "Game of Thrones" season 4.

Russian actor Yuri Kolokolnikov was cast as Styr, Magnar of Thenn, the war chief of the Wildlings in season 4 of "Game of Thrones," Entertainment Weekly reports. While Yuri Kolokolnikov may not be well known in the US, he's a longtime actor in Russia, and has had roles in more than a couple dozen features, the website notes.

It was previously speculated that the role of Styr, Magnar of Thenn would go to Joseph Gatt, after he gave a hint on his Twitter account.

All "Game of Thrones" scenes that take place "beyond the Wall," which is where the Wildlings are located, are shot in Iceland. Joseph Gatt posted on his Twitter about being in Iceland this summer.

"Just had this for dinner #IcelandicDelicacy #WouldRatherRideItThanEatIt #OnceWasEnough =)," Gatt tweeted on July 23.

However, it's been confirmed that the role will go to Kolokolnikov.

Styr, Magnar of Thenn is one of the war chiefs in Mance Rayder's Wildling army, CraveOnline.com reports. Styr is described in George R.R. Martin's novel as tall, imposing and hairless. Styr leads the Wildlings in an assault on Castle Black, where the Night's Watch lives on The Wall, the website reports.

"Game of Thrones" Season 4 will premiere on HBO in Spring 2014.
