NBA Injury Report: Knicks Center Tyson Chandler Will Be Out 4-6 Weeks Because Of Knee Injury, Can This Break Knicks’ Losing Streak?

NBA injury report: New York Knicks Center Tyson Chandler suffered a non-displaced fracture in his right fibula during their tough loss to the Bobcats last Tuesday. This leaves the slow starting team having more trouble after losing a key player in their lineup.

Chandler who was on defense collided with Kemba Walker's knee while the Bobcats guard was rushing in to drive the ball.

The starting big man for the Knicks seated in the bench after the incident with ice packed around his knee. He was later escorted out of the court to check on his injury.

It has been reported that the 7' 1" player will be out for four to six weeks before he can recover and play again.

"He's a big piece to what we do," Knicks Coach Mike Woodson said after losing at home.

An orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Forsh who spoke of this specific injury that it will take longer than usual for a person to recover from this kind of harm.

"It does usually take about four to six weeks for the bone to heal," said the doctor. "And then he would require some physical therapy to recondition his leg, which obviously is not going to be in use for a while."

The 31-year old player however is one key for the team's frontcourt due to injuries from other players. Amare Stoudamire who is a New York big man is playing but with limited minutes due to an injury as well.

Former Raptors center Andrea Bargnani however will be Chandler's replacement for the meantime. The 7-footer back up though lacks defensive explosiveness unlike the one Chandler provides for the team. He averages 4.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks a game for his entire career. The Italian player however can provide more offensive points for the team which may or may not help the team find its winning groove.
