Kmart will start Black Friday 2013 early; Kmart announced they will be open on Thanksgiving, getting a head start on Black Friday 2013. However, this decision has caused online backlash by consumers who blame Kmart for not letting employees spend the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends.

According to NPR, Kmart announced its Black Friday 2013 plan for Christmas shoppers: to stay open for 41 hours in a row, starting early on Thanksgiving Day. This decision has spurred a great deal of online backlash.

"Shame on you, Kmart. I will never set foot in any of your stores again," wrote Tracy Lane on Kmart's Facebook page, ABC 15 reports. "I have family members that work in retail and because of greedy retailers like you, will not be able to spend the day with us."

Others have called the Kmart Black Friday 2013 decision "heartless," "greedy," "shameful" and "disgusting," the website reports.

Kmart responded to the negative feedback and explained that they will try to staff its stores with seasonal workers, to accommodate employees who want to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family, NPR reports.

Amber Camp, who says she works at Kmart, said via Facebook that her bosses "are planning on all the employees to have some time so we can actually spend time with our families on Thanksgiving."

Kmart's social media team responded on Facebook: "We understand many associates want to spend time with their families during the holiday. With this in mind Kmart stores do their very best to staff with seasonal associates and those who are needed to work holidays."

"Kmart has opened at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving for the past three years," reports CNN Money. "Last year, however, stores closed for a few hours at 4 p.m. to let shoppers and employees get to their Thanksgiving dinners."

Sears stores will also be open on Thanksgiving; they will be open from 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving night to 10 p.m. Friday.
