Mariska Hargitay Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame; Law & Order: SVU Star Is Placed Right Next to Her Mother, Jayne Mansfield

Mariska Hargitay will forever be embedded in concrete on the streets of Hollywood. The daughter of tragic Tinseltown icon Jayne Mansfield got her own star on the Hollywood Hall of Fame, right next to her mother. Mariska Hargitay and her “Law & Order: SVU” friends attended the handprint ceremony at TCL Chinese Theatre on Friday, November 8.

Mariska Hargitay is best known for her work on “Law & Order: SVU” where she has played Det. Olivia Benson for 14 years. Mariska Hargitay tough portrayal on the long running crime series makes her an icon just like her mother, Jayne Mansfield.

Law & Order: SVU creator Dick Wolf, was on hand along with Oscar-winning actress Hillary Swank as Mariska Hargitay received the 2,511th Hollywood Hall Walk of Fame star. Swank met Mariska 15 years ago on the set of “E.R.”

Wolf told Hargitay "I love you, you've done an incredible job. You are one of the icons of television, and certainly, I think the female icon for millions of women not only here, but all around the world."

Hillary Swank said "I am so moved by you and so grateful to all of you and you're what, as I said, makes today possible."

Because the character Mariska plays Law and Order: SVU, Olivia Benson, is the product of her mother's rape, Hargitay launched the Joyful Heart Foundation in 2004 to aid real-life victims of sexual abuse and trauma.

Hargitay is married to actor Peter Hermann, also appears in Law and Order: SVU. Hargitay and Hermann have three children, August, Amaya and Andrew.
