Sunderland will face off against rival Manchester City on Sunday, placing two of the English Premier League's closely followed teams against each other.
Sunderland, coming out of a 1-0 loss to Hull City, is expected to be the underdog in the match.
Sunderland Manager Gus Poyet said Adam Johnson has all the attributed to be a long-term success at the team.
"I don't think Adam is frustrated but I think he's just used to getting the ball and running at people," said Poyet, according to The Advertiser Series. "Now we're trying different things. We're trying to give him different messages; we're trying to tell him how and when to use the ball in different situations.
"Football is not a square, it is not forwards and backwards like a machine. There are things that you need to do. If you watch Manchester City, you will see.
Manchester City, coming out of a 7-0 victory over Norwich, is slated as the favorite in the match and is rumored to give Sunderland a good game.
Manchester City Manager Manuel Pellegrini said Sergio Aguero and strike partner Alvaro Negredo are playing well as members of the team.
"I always thought he was incredible because he is a top player, but now he is in a great moment," he said, according to Sky Sports.
"It is not only Aguero and Negredo - the team is playing very well," he added. "All the midfielders - (David) Silva, (Samir) Nasri, (Yaya) Toure, Fernandinho - are really playing very well."
