'The Carrie Diaries' Season 2 Episode 3 entitled 'Strings Attached' portrayed Carrie and her friends relishing the last bits of summer while readying for school. On the previous episode, Carrie and Walt tried to come up with ways on how to kick out their new roommate because of her behavior.

Walt took a leap of faith and attempted to tell Bennett about his feelings during his eighteenth birthday party. However, things didn't turn out right before Bennett got the opportunity to response. Mouse and Samantha meet wherein she did not hesitate to share her knowledge about sex to the naïve Mouse.

Sebastian and Maggie awkwardly ran into each other in Castlebury as Carrie messed up her job interview because of Mouse's spoiled egg dish. Fortunately, the recruiter saw Carrie's potential which made her eligible for another chance. Sebastian tried to talk to Carrie but she refused for she still couldn't forget Sebastian's act of betrayal.

In 'Strings Attached', Larissa comes back from her summer escapade in Kyoto and takes Carrie and Walt to a Japanese ceremony in Manhattan. Carrie claims to finally find her Zen because of a gardenia and the serenity that it stands for. Larissa meets Samantha and because of their strong personalities, a catfight ensues. Carrie attempts to stop the two but Walt reminds her about her vow to have a more serene approach to things.

Mouse continues helping Maggie in setting a favorable path for her future. Mouse volunteers to file the college applications for Maggie but ends up being frustrated because of Maggie's lack of determination and unwillingness. Simon is no help as well after persuading Maggie to stop dreaming for her future.

A cougar named Vicky enters the picture and she apparently wants to have her hands on Sebastian. Sebastian, on the other hand, enlists Dorrit in his mission to "kidnap" Carrie for a chat. Dorritt agrees and lures Carrie by pretending to ask for help.

Carrie eventually falls into Dorrit's trap. Even if Carrie made it clear in the previous episode that she was still hurting, she and Sebastian ended up kissing in the third episode. Their kiss was interrupted with the arrival of Carrie's teacher. They end up being sent to the principal's pffice.

Realizing that she's ready to forgive, Carrie decides to give Sebastian another chance. However, Sebastian likewise realizes that he might be a hindrance to Carrie's happiness and sense of peace. Carrie attempts to disagree but later understands that Sebastian is correct.

Sebastian then gives in to Vicky's invitation for a no-strings-attached type of relationship. The episode concludes with Carrie seeing a gift from Larissa on her desk at the Interview office. It was the gardenia.
