Miss Universe 2013 Winner Crowned In Russia; Miss Venezuela Wins Crown; Steven Tyler Leads Panel of Judges

Miss Venezuela was crowned Miss Universe 2013 in Russia by a panel of judges lead by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and American Idol. Miss Universe was crowned at an exhibition hall on the outskirts of Moscow last night.

A 25-year-old Venezuelan Gabriela Isler the new Miss Universe. The Venezuelan beauty is an accomplished flamenco dancer. Spain’s Patricia Rodrigues was the runner-up. Venezuela has now won three of the last six Miss Universe pageants.

In her excitement at winning, the tiara fell of Gabriela Isler’s head as she was being crowned by Miss Universe 2012, Olivia Culpo of the United States. The new Miss Universe laughed it off.

Miss Universe, Gabriela Isler of Venezuela, wore a $1 million jewel-studded swimsuit to greet the press this morning, saying "I feel very happy to share my first day as Miss Universe. I'm a simple girl. I am just come to have fun, to enjoy the moment -- and here I am."

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro took to Twitter to congratulated the new Miss Universe 2013. He said the title was a "triumph" for Venezuela.

Venezuela has won more major international beauty competitions than any other country. In Venezuela beauty pageants are one of the nation’s favorite pastimes. They tie baseball as the Venezeula’ most-followed entertainment.
