'Avengers Age Of Ultron' - X-Men Crossover Possible; Maria Hill To Return In Sequel

The politics of the movie industry has rendered an explosive Avengers-X Men crossover practically impossible. However, Marvel president Kevin Feige would not put the nail on the coffin yet.

The blogosphere has been hanging on every word that Marvel boss man says. He is always obliging, and has the skill of revealing "just enough." While responding to questions from IGN, Feige was approached with the ultimate Marvel fanboy dream- a battle royale between The Avengers and the X-Men.

Just a backgrounder- in the late 90s, Marvel Entertainment almost went bankrupt. Due to their financial status, they were not able to make the planned movie versions that the fans demanded. Thus, they sold the rights to the characters to different studios. Sony/Columbia bought Spider-Man and 20th Century Fox got the X-Men, Lionsgate got the Punisher among others. These were the titles that had some fame at that period. The Avengers and Iron Man were not exactly bestsellers.

Marvel has since bounced back, and with Disney's firepower, they have built the most successful franchise the comic book movie realm has ever seen. With upcoming releases in the next two years, both Marvel superteams are alive and well. The logical question: why not make an epic crossover? They are both Marvel teams, right?

Even without discussing the creative difficulty, it is hard to fathom that both giant studios (or even Sony with Spider Man) would work together. They seem to bust building their own respective universes to keep their fanbases busy. Nevertheless, Feige toes the line with his response:

"I would never say never. I would say, not any time soon would we be in a position to team up with other studios who [have] a few of our characters, because we have so many characters ourselves." So it's not never, but it won't be anytime soon. Heroes can time travel, right?

Speaking of heroes, Cobie Smulders is also vague about her "Avengers Age of Ultron" appearance. In an interview with The Calgary Herald:  "The Avengers" is "very top secret. I hope I'm in 'Avengers 2.' I didn't get my invitation yet. Well, actually, they know I'm in it but they don't know to what degree I'm in it."
