Typhoon Haiyan Update: Half-Filipino Miami Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra Raises Funds For Relief Efforts, NBA Players Union Donates For Typhoon Victims

The National Basketball Association Players Association donated $250,000 to Unicef which supports relief operations for the victim of the recent Super Typhoon Haiyan which hit the Philippines and took over 10,000 lives this past weekend.

Erik Spoelstra, whose mother lives in the Philippines, is one who expressed his deepest sympathies for the victims of the killer natural calamity. He will appear with UNICEF to help raise funds for the tragedy.

 "On behalf of the Miami Heat organization, we would like to extend our condolences to the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. We value the many fans that we have over there, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers."

President Barrack Obama on the other hand also expressed his sympathies and support for the Filipinos. He said he believes that Filipinos can raise from this bizarre tragedy.

"Michelle and I are deeply saddened by the loss of life and extensive damage done by Super Typhoon Yolanda. But I know the incredible resiliency of the Philippine people, and I am confident that the spirit of Bayanihan will see you through this tragedy," the United States of America president said.

"The United States is already providing significant humanitarian assistance, and we stand ready to further assist the Government's relief and recovery efforts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the millions of people affected by this devastating storm," he added.

Also, the President of The Philippines, Benigno Aquino III, showed his plans to reconstruct the towns and cities that the storm obliterated in the region of Visayas.

The president talked to local government units to look for empty lands in the affected where they can construct temporary shelters and bunk houses. Also, provide drinking waters for which the waters in the area may be contaminated and polluted.

He talked to the Department of Health for medicines and cure for people with illness and injuries caused by the storm as well.
