The Aftermath Of Typhoon Haiyan In The Philippines Was So Devastating It Led Commissioner Yeb Sano To Fasting – ‘I Will Now Commence A Voluntary Fasting For The Climate’

The devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines is truly indescribable and it can be seen through Philippines Climate Change Commissioner Yeb Sano's plea during a talk in Warsaw, Poland.

Typhoon Haiyan locally known as Yolanda left the Philippines and it took with it 10,000 lives, half a billion homeless and billion's worth of properties.

Dead bodies were left piled on the streets while survivors were busy scavenging for food. The scene is so heart-breaking that you can see dead children scattered around the area.

Mr. Sano related the overwhelming destruction brought by Typhoon Haiyan to climate change. In his emotional speech, he said that he will fast for the entire two-week Conference of the Parties until progress is made.

"I struggle to find words even for the images that we see on the news coverage," he emotionally said during the conference."And I struggle to find the words to describe how I feel about the losses."

"In solidarity with my countrymen who are struggling to find food back home, I will now commence a voluntary fasting for the climate, this means I will voluntarily refrain from eating food during this Cop, until a meaningful outcome is in sight."

"What my country is going through as a result of this extreme climate event is madness, the climate crisis is madness. We can stop this madness right here in Warsaw," he claimed.

He urged his fellow delegates to "stop this madness," to act and to organize a program that will combat global climate change.

"I speak for my delegation, but I speak for the countless people who will no longer be able to speak for themselves after perishing from the storm," he said.

"I speak also for those who have been orphaned by the storm. I speak the people now racing against time to save survivors and alleviate the suffering of the people affected.

"We can take drastic action now to ensure that we prevent a future where super typhoons become a way of life."

Other delegates of the conference were brought to tears by his speech and Mr. Sano received a standing ovation from the crowd.
