Typhoon Haiyan Philippines Aftermath: Beware, Scammers Pose As Typhoon Victims Solicits Help Online; Strong Police And Military Presence Restores Order

There were actually 967 police deployed by the Regional local government unit after the onslaught of Typhoon Haiyan. Unfortunately only 37 of those complied to their duties last Monday.

We can't really blame the other 937, for all we know they were also victims themselves and needs help too.

ABS-CBN reported earlier and even uploaded a video that showed Gaisano Mall in Tacloban City suffered heavy looting. Robinson's Tacloban despite ABS-CBN reporter Ted FAilon's plea to strongly guard the establishment, have fallen to looters as well. The executive leader President Noy Noy Aquino have sent additional police and military men to reinforce and re-establish order and facilitate relief operations. ATMs have also been looted already reported by ABS-CBN, confirmed by Southern Leyte Rep. Roger Mercado.

Sadly scammers have grossly taken advantage of the typhoon aftermath for their own selfish benefit. Others have started to post photos.

We should be wise. Electricity still hasn't been restored in any area of the typhoon affected provinces, so how were those 'alleged' victims able to post 'decent' photos of what they claim to be their destroyed properties?

As of the moment all donations should only be coursed through legitimate organizations and agencies, such as the government and NGOs. Let us hope though that these donations shall be properly spent and distributed for what they are really intended for. We strongly hope that no conniving corrupt official would take advantage and 'donate' these funds to their own pockets, like how these scammers have shamelessly done so.

We will not be able to track, file a proper complaint, and hold these heartless cammers accountable. But it doesn't mean we that we can no longer stop them. Let us proactively report these posts by flagging and reporting them, so people who are genuinely willing to help will not be duped by these evil-minded fraudsters.
