OS X Mavericks issues: Like in many upgrade, there’s always a chance that a screw up could occur and it’s not an accident that the OS X Mavericks has caused issues to users downloading and installing the update.

In line with this issues, Storage drive provider, Western Digital, is “urgently investigating” reports of users experiencing data loss after upgrading to OS X Mavericks, ZDNet reports.

In a report, Sci Tech Today, it noted that Apple is preparing a set of performance and bug fixes to solve user complaints and issues on the upgrade.

The storage drive manufacturer has emailed its customers warning them about the possibility of losing data between external hard drives. This was followed by a report of driver issues about Thunderbolt displays and arrays earlier November.

A Western Digital spokesman who talked to ZDNet confirmed in an email message that there were issues with Western Digital and other external hard drives experiencing data loss when updating to the OS X Mavericks.

The company is looking into the issue with urgency to identify any possible connections with its own software namely WD Drive Manager, WD Raid Manager, and WD SmartWare software applications, ZDNet reports.

The tech website noted that Western Digital “strongly urges our customers to uninstall these software applications on their systems before updating to OS X Mavericks, or delay upgrading,” the spokesperson told ZDNet.

As a result of the ongoing issue and the possible connection of data loss due to Western Digital’s software and OS X Mavericks, WD has pulled its software from its website.

There have been some comments from users, however, that claims data loss even when Western Digital drives are not in use. Many have resorted to the Genius Bar as well as Apple support and forums seeking assistance to this issue.
