Samsung Galaxy S2 Reviews, News: Despite News That Says Device Officially Reaches End Of Life, Can S2 Still Get Android 4.4 KitKat?

Samsung Galaxy S2 reviews, news: Earlier this month there were reports that the Samsung Galaxy S2 will not be getting further updates from Samsung. The device receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but was not updated to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean nor Android 4.3.

In a report by Gotta Be Mobile, it noted that Australian-carrier Telstra said that there are no more updates planned for the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G, a confirmation in earlier report that Samsung Galaxy S2 will not be getting the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update.

According to Gotta Be Mobile, while Telstra’s decision on the Galaxy S2 4G applies to its Australian users, it will very likely apply to the rest of the world as well. The blog suggest that Samsung Galaxy S2 users interested in getting further updates from the Android 4.1 should start seeking help from the development community.

Despite this, however, reports have surfaced that the new Android 4.4 KitKat are for devices with 512MB system memory or less. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has 1 GB of system memory, making it a qualified device to get an upgrade.

In an earlier report last July, the International Business Times reported that Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of many Galaxy devices included in an end of life cycle with Android 4.2.2. The website cites a source from Samsung sharing the tip.

This still begs the question if it will really not be getting an update anymore, especially since the device is still one of the most famous Android handsets to date with the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, its successor model, being touted by many as a better option than the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus has just the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update this year and though reports have also indicated that it maybe the last for the device, it’s still rumored that it’s getting the Android 4.3 update.

Samsung unveiled the S2 last February 2011 at the Mobile World Congress and is one of the slimmest smartphone of the time. It has a 1.2GHz dual-core “Exynos” system on a chip (SoC) processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 10.8 cm (4.3 in) WVGA Super AMOLED Plus screen display and an 8-megapixel camera with flash and 1080p full high definition recording.
