‘Parks And Recreation’ Season 6 Spoilers: Leslie Knope Tries To ‘Fight The Cynicism And Disappointment’ After Recall Results, Amy Poehler Says

"Parks and Recreation" season 6 took a huge twist for the fate of Leslie Knope on last week's episode. Amy Poehler discussed some "Parks and Recreation" spoilers, and what season 6 holds for the future of Leslie Knope's political career in Pawnee.

Spoiler alert: in last week's episode, we learned that the effort to recall Leslie Knope was successful. In a heartbreaking turn of events, Leslie was successfully recalled and is no longer a Pawnee City Council member.

Amy Poehler, who plays Leslie on "Parks and Recreation," explained why she and creator Mike Schur made the decision to have her recalled.

According to TV Line, Schur explained that after Leslie was "recalled in the finale last year... the writers spent the 10 weeks leading up to shooting talking about the options, and this seemed like the best, juiciest one. Once we committed to having her recalled we thought, 'Well if she wins the vote, she's just back where she was before."

Poehler believes that this twist in season 6 fits the main theme of "Parks and Recreation," which was established very early on in the series.

"The idea [was] this long arc of one person with very little power believing that they can make a difference," Poehler recalled. "But people don't always like the things you change - especially when they're very personal and small, like the size of your sodas. So, it's cool to play with the idea that just because Leslie is getting things done doesn't mean that people like what she's doing.... How do you fight the cynicism and disappointment that comes along with that? How do you make a difference in politics?"

Schur agreed and said: "You kind of can't tell the story [of a character fighting the tide of cynicism] if everything is going right," TV Line reports

But Leslie is not being thrown under the bus just yet. Her friends and fellow "Parks and Rec" department coworkers will be there to support her in these tough times.

"She's going to mull some stuff over, and she gets a lot of advice from a lot of different people along the way as she actively seeks out a bunch of different possibilities for her life," Schur revealed. "She just never stops moving and eventually she's going to find a path that makes sense to her."

According to TV Line, Leslie has roughly a month left in her city council seat and, according to Schur, she'll spend every moment "finishing off her career" in style.

"Occasionally we have to knock her around a little bit," Schur told reporters with a laugh at a press screening, TV Line reports, "especially professionally!"

The 100th episode of "Parks and Rec" airs in January, and will feature Leslie's final hours as a City Council member.
