Annette Bening's Transgender Son With Warren Beatty, Stephen Ira, Appears In Healthcare PSA; Spotlights How Health Care Discriminates Against Transgender People (Video)

Warren Beatty and Annette Bening's transgender son, Stephen Ira, is featured in a new public service announcement that champions trans healthcare.

The PSA featuring Annette Benning’s transgender son was published to YouTube on Nov. 15.

Annette Bening’s 21-year-old transgender son Ira is a writer. He joined GLAAD and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project to he could speak out against the discrimination that transgender people encounter in the healthcare system. Annette Bening’s transgender son points out how transgender people are excluded by regulations in the New York State Medicaid system.

The PSA is called "Healthcare for all: Give trans people access to the care they need."

In the PSA, Stephen Ira says "I grew up outside of New York, but I've always known I've wanted to move here for the city's vibrant artistic community. As a trans person, I would hope that I'd be welcomed, but many trans people aren't because we don't have the basic healthcare coverage that we need to survive."

GLAAD hopes the PSA will bring to light how misinformation and bias in the healthcare industry denies trans people healthcare. Annette Bening’s transgender son also says there is also a lack of trans-friendly providers in the Public Service Annoucement.

Ira doesn’t mention Warren Beatty or Annette Bening in the PSA. The transgender son of the celebrity couple came under fire.
