NBA Trade Rumors – Derrick Williams On Trading Block; T-Wolves Want Strong Veteran Presence Around Kevin Love

As the season unfolds, more and more teams are defining their stand for the season. For Minnesota, a strong start behind an inspired Kevin Love means they're all in. For that trend to continue, they want to make sure that they have all the tools for an extended playoff run.

The playoffs is not about extended lineups, its about a dependable 8-man rotation. They don't want to wait for their young turks to develop into contributors in the future. They want a reason for Kevin Love to stay.

The Wolves are willing to part with their young talent, even someone with as deep an investment as Derrick Williams, who is a 2nd overall draft pick behind Kyrie Irving. Williams could not find his place in the NBA, or at least with the T-Wolves. He is undersized at the power forward spot (which he played so well in college) and is usually outrun at the small forward spot.

Yet he has the talent, and what the T-Wolves need is for other teams to see that. They are also willing to throw in Alexey Shved, a Russian combo guard with Euroskills, also called a poor man's Ricky Rubio which a team would not need if they had, well, the real Ricky Rubio.

The T-Wolves want a veteran to frontliner to pair with Kevin Love who is playing the best basketball of his life. He is showing his offensive prowess and the T-Wolves management want him to concentrate on that. They have proposed a Derrick Williams package for Pau Gasol to the Lakers, but the Lakers value Pau's expiring contract.

The Sacramento Kings are a possible destination. The Wolves would be glad with Jason Thompson in return, and it would add more scoring to the offensively challenged Kings. The Wolves want more, but interest is lukewarm at best.
