Miley Cyrus Says VMAs 2013 Performance Was Edited by MTV; `I’m Like a Voice of a Whole Generation’

Miley Cyrus can win anyone over it seems. She partied the other night with Lily Allen, whose new music videos blasts Miley Cyrus' twerking and the oversexuality of "Wrecking Ball." Miley Cyrus VMAs 2013 performance pulled more controversy when she was just trying to “shake up” the music, but it put sales Miley’s new album, “Bangerz,” to the top of Billboard’s October 200 charts. Cyrus says MTV edited her performance heavily.

Miley Cyrus lit up a joint at the MTV EMAs, scandalizing many, but also selling more records. Miley isn’t intentionally courting controversy. Cyrus told Cover Magazine “I’m just trying to be true to myself. I’m having fun, I’ve never been happier, and I’m following my instincts. I don’t think I’m doing anything that outrageous but people are free to say what they think. I try not to judge people and nobody would have been talking about the VMAs if I hadn’t given that performance. It was all about not taking ourselves so seriously.”

It was other people who took it too seriously. A lot of artists defended Miley and some, well, not so much. Cyrus says the reaction to the VMAs 2013 performance “was way overblown. I feel proud of my performance and the fact that all the talk about the VMAs was about that makes me think I was right to take things a little further than what people were expecting. Music needs to be shaken up now and a lot of the stuff I did on stage was actually edited out by MTV.”

Some people just don’t get her. Others, the ones who by Miley’s records by the millions, do. Cyrus says the media targets her because she is just acting her age. She says “People don’t like anything that they can’t wrap their brain around or they’re fascinated by it and that’s why they obsess over it. And I think that’s the big part about me. I think people are fascinated by the fact that I’m 20 ... ’cause I’m like a voice of a whole generation.”
