Nina Dobrev's ex boyfriend Ian Somerhalder had some dating advice for his "Vampire Diaries" character, Damon Salvatore. Damon dates Nina Dobrev's "Vampire Diaries" character Elena Gilbert, and though he's proven to be a good boyfriend this season, he doesn't always make the best choices. What did Ian Somerhalder say he would tell Damon about dating and being a good boyfriend to Nina Dobrev's Elena?

"Think before you act. The decisions this man makes blow my mind," Ian Somerhalder told ClevverTV at the "Vampire Diaries" 100th episode celebration in Atlanta, Georgia, Wetpaint reports. "Whoever thought it was a good idea to kill the love of your life's little brother - come on man, think about this for a second, it's not a good idea. But he does it."

Fans of "Vampire Diaries" will know that Ian is referring to Damon killing Elena's younger brother, Jeremy, in order to save her life. We agree with Wetpaint - we're still shocked Elena was able to forgive her new boyfriend!

"And the cool thing is that he does everything, even if it's awful, with so much heart, that the audience finds justification to forgive him," Ian added, joking about his loyal fans.

Though Damon is proving to be a good boyfriend to Elena, we can't say the same thing about Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev. After dating for three years, they broke up earlier this summer. While speculation has swirled that the two are still secretly seeing each other, or have a "friends with benefits" situation going on behind the scenes, Nina hasn't addressed the idea of Ian going back to being her boyfriend in real life.
