NBA Trade Rumors – Amare Stoudemire For Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries; Knicks Pressured To Win Now, Celtics Can Stink Another Year

The NBA is now so complicated that trades are executed not for basketball reasons. The unimaginable is actually possible, as the Knicks may find a trade partner for Amare Stoudemire.

It violates any basketball logic: $23 Million for a highly damaged Amare Stoudemire who will never return to his old form and even has a limit for his minutes. The New York Knicks thought they would be stuck with him forever.

Amare has a player option to terminate his contract next year, just like Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Rudy Gay. That actually means that these players will not even end up as free agents.

The only difference is that Melo, The King and Bosh are at their peak, and most likely to get offers from other teams. It is also a chance to secure a long term contract while they are at their peak. Amare is different. It is certain that he will not exercise his option and take the $23Million. It might be his last paycheck.

If the Celtics take Amare, it will be a means to unload the long term contract they are desperate to move - -that belongs to Gerald Wallace. Wallace is tied until 2016. They might have to throw in Kris Humphries, whose contract expires this year.

If the trade happens (according to Bleacher Report, it's highly possible), the Boston Celtics lose some of their cap flexibility in 2014 (Humphries) but they will have massive cap space in 2015 (Stoudemire). This is because the Celtics are willing to stink another year. They will get a non-performing player in Stoudemire and possibly a draft pick for next year. However, they will be major players in free agency in 2015, for players like Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge and their own Rajon Rondo.

That was the plan of the New York Knicks. However, the Knicks don't have the luxury of an understanding owner (and maybe their fan base) to allow a 'long term rebuilding.' In simple terms, they're like the kids who can't resist taking the cookie. They need to win now, and to do that they need to convert Amare Stoudemire to anything that moves on the court, even if it's Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries.
