Moto G Specs, Release Date: $179 Budget Handset To Be Released With Android 4.4 KitKat In U.S., Other Specs Include 1GB RAM, 5MP Camera

Moto G specs, release date: The new budget handset by by the Google-owned smartphone maker recently unveiled a $179 handset intended to appeal to the emerging market consumers and the lower-end of the market. It’s sweetening the deal not only price-wise in the U.S. by also releasing it with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Android 4.4 KitKat is the latest mobile OS to come from Google and is currently only available when you users purchase the $350 Nexus 5. According to the International Business Times, Motorola said that in the second wave of Moto G releases, which will be in the U.S. and some countries in Southeast Asia, the low-cost model will be released with the new OS out of the box.

Though it’s positioned to be one of the cheapest handsets in the market, the Moto G brings with it impressive set of features for its price point. It has a 5MP camera, 1 GB of RAM and a 4.5 capacitative touchscreen carrying a 720p HD resolution. In terms of pixels-per-inch (ppi), the Moto G matches the pixel density of the iPhone 5S, labeled as the fastest handset in the world.

The budget-friendly phone’s screen has the newest version of Corning’s smartphone screen covering, Gorilla Glass 3. The base $179 model has 8GB of storage, while the $199 version has 16GB. Motorola said that the price of the device could even be lower when purchased from its partners.

The Moto G was released last Nov. 13 in several parts of Europe and Brazil and will soon be made available in U.K., Germany, Mexico and France.
