Live? Really?

The best part of live performances is the tense and dynamic atmosphere but K Pop Star seems to be missing all of that.

During this week's episode of the show, the contestants seemed anxious enough but the viewers did not empathize with them.

With the commencement of live auditions, the entire cast and crew were tense. But not the viewers. They were busy comparing the show with 'Super Star K', weighing the pros and cons.

First, the stages were not fun. Excluding Lee Seung Hun and Park Jimin, most of the contestants sang ballads which generally brought a rather somber atmosphere. MC Yoon Do Hyun attempted to relax the audience by saying "You can scream and shout you know. We're tense but those of you in the audience don't have to be." But it did not help.

The sound quality was also problematic. Although the contestants do boast powerful vocal skills, most of them do not yet have the capacity to put a captivating performance singing solo live.

This caused people to pick at the contestants' skills. Of course, you never know what is going to happen during live performances. But many of them were not even able to live up to the usual expectations of the judges. Lee Michelle and Lee Jung Mi were not able to perform upto their usual capacity due to their health and Lee Seung Hun, who had normally wowed the judges with his charisma, failed miserably.

Other stages were not much different. Although this is a show for aspiring idol groups, the contestants' painfully sloppy performances caused many people to comment "well..it's their first live performance." In order to turn these negative opinions around, the contestants need to work hard to hone their skills. It's only a matter of time before the attention and leniency turns into vitriolic criticism.
