Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Update: Compact Version Of Flagship Receives Official Android 4.3 Update, Handset Is Offered Free This Black Friday Via Sprint

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini update: Compact version of the highly popular Samsung Galaxy S4 is getting an update to the Android 4.3 according to the South Korean tech giant, Trusted Review reports. The roll out of the new OS for the “mini” device will begin in Canada with the Rogers, Telus and Bell networks.

As part of its Black Friday and Thanksgiving sale, Sprint in the U.S. is offering customers who will be shopping at its retail stores the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini for free after a $50 mail in rebate via a reward card, with a two-year contract.

Trusted Reviews noted that the new features brought by the Android 4.3 upgrade for the S4 Mini include Samsung’s KNOX services and a security update that will allow users to utilize a set of “secured” applications, free from the threats of harmful malware and viruses.

Other benefits of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update include Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini being able to support Samsung Galaxy Gear as well as Bluetooth 4.0 LE smart technology compatibility. Trusted Review said that an upgraded S4 Mini will also have ES 3.0 graphics support which enhances the gaming experience with the device.

Though the Android 4.3 did cause some issues for the S4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, with the latter device’s update getting halted, Samsung would hope that this won’t be the case for the S4 Mini.

Specs of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini include a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and 256 ppi. It has an 8 MP camera and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.5 GB of RAM. It has a built-in storage of 8GB but with MicroSD support that can allow up to 64 GB. The S4 Mini was officially announced by Samsung May 30, 2013.
