‘New Girl’ Season 3 Episode 9 Recap: How Long Can Schmidt Pretend That CeCe And Coach Dating Is Not A Big Deal?

Nick and Jess attempts to plan a date but they were not able to pursue their plans primarily because of Winston who asked them to look after Ferguson so that he could go out and meet women.  Nick gives in to his request especially after finding out that his good friend actually showers with his feline companion.

Schmidt then enters the picture bearing bad news that Cece and Coach will go on a date. While Coach asked for Schmidt's permission, it did not change the fact that Cece's former beau was devastated beyond words. Jess then embarks on a mission to distract Schmidt before he sabotages Cece and Coach's date or even harm himself.

Meanwhile, Coach and Cece go on a date at the Staples Center to watch a basketball game. Since he just came out from a tumultuous relationship, Coach was behaving nervously. Rathen than concentrating on Cece, he seems to be more concerned to his phone. Furious Cece then leaves only to be followed by Coach who admits to texting his mother for a moral boost. Charmed by this gesture, Cece did not leave. The date ended with a passionate kiss.

Winston then arrives in the loft only to find out that Nick left the window open and that Ferguson was nowhere to be found. Nick and Winston left to look for the missing cat. Jess continues to distract Schmidt using her yearbook.  The distressed Schmidt compares the sectional couch with Cece and tries to make out with it: "This leather is so smooth. Brown. It's just like CeCe."

Just as Winston and Nick are losing hope to find Ferguson, Winston gets a message saying that his pet was found eating a dead raccoon's eyeball. The message sender turns out to be a bus driver who intrigues Winston. Sensing the potential for the two to actually "bond", Nick left with Ferguson.

Jess appears to be tired of looking after Schmidt, that's why she brought him to a bar hoping that he would find a "replacement". Schmidt does not find the move fancy so he headed to Staples Center to continue his plan to ruin Coach and Cece's date. He begs Jess to hit him with her car so that his plan will not be continued. Jess obediently did only to anger Schmidt for he was wearing his "favorite utility khakis."

Will Coach and Cece end up having a serious relationship? How long will Schmidt pretend that it's fine seeing his lady love being pursued by another man?
