Apple iWatch Release Date, Rumors: Wearable Gadget Production Stalled Because Of ‘Low Yield’ In Component, 12.9-inch iPad In-Development To Be Produced By Quanta

Apple iWatch release date, rumors: The production run of Apple’s wearable gadget for the wrist is reportedly having its production run delayed, according to The Register. Citing DigiTimes as the source, the news publication said that “because of low yield” of a particular component, the mass production of the iWatch has been pushed back from the first quarter of next year until the second quarter.

The Register also reported that Qanta, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of notebook computers and other electronic hardware, has been chosen by Apple as its manufacturing partner for a 12.9-inch tablet called “MaxiPad.”

According to The Register, Quanta is also in competition with Inventec (also based in Taiwan) and Apple’s longtime manufacturing partner, Foxconn, for contracts to manufacture Apple’s impending “wearable,” known as the iWatch. In a February 2013 article by Peter Burrows and Adam Satariano of Bloomberg, they reported that Apple has a team of 100 product designers working on a wristwatch-like device that would perform the tasks of an iPhone and iPad.

Korean newspaper Chosun Ibo reported earlier that Apple is currently testing a prototype with multiple models and different sized screens in testing. The expected range of wearable gadgets include a 1.4-inch model, a 1.5-inch model and a 1.6-inch model.

The 1.5-inch model, according to an unnamed source Chosun Ibo reported, have been given a limited production run. The initial batch would most probably be test units. At the time of this writing, reports indicate that the 1.4-inch and 1.6-inch model are still being worked on.
