Mac Pro Release Date: High-End Workstation Coming December 16, German Retailer Shows Pre-Order For U.S. Based Machine; Price Starts At $2,999

Mac Pro release date: December 16 is hinted as the availability date of the high-end workstation that Apple has touted as the fastest and most powerful Mac machine in years. In a report by the International Business Times, it noted that German retailer Conrad Electronic is now accepting pre-orders for the machine.

Based on the pre-orders page from Conrad Electronic, it shows that the store will be selling two stock configurations of the 2013 Mac Pro and that the units will be available on December 16. The Business Times report said that the retailer shows no basis for its expected release date. The site’s listing, however, is the first specific claim of an availability schedule for the workstation since Apple announced it’s coming this month.

The new Mac Pro is designed to be the creative professionals workstation of choice. In an article by Ted Landau for Mac World, he wrote that the design, specs and price point of the Mac Pro appeals to a “small but profitable professional market.”

The new Mac Pro, the most recent iteration of the high-end Mac after three years, has a USB 3, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 1.4 ports, and six ports for the ultrafast Thunderbolt 2, Apple’s new connectivity technology that delivers up to 20 Gbps of bandwidth to each external device according to the Business Times. The workstation, which many speculate to be manufactured in Texas, has a 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon processor, 12 GB of DRAM, Dual FirePro D300 GPUs with 2GB of VRAM each and a 256GB SSD.

The most affordable of the new Mac Pro units is the $2,999 quad-core configuration. The unit comes with 256GB of storage. Those interested to upgrade to the six-core variant of the Mac Pro will need to pay an additional $1,000, but will the storage will still be at 256GB.
