Prince Harry and his girlfriend Cressida Bonas will be split apart by thousands of miles until the Christmas holiday, despite Prince Harry's charity race to the South Pole being cancelled. Though the competition has been suspended, the South Pole trek itself will still continue until mid-December.

According to CNN, Ed Parker, the expedition director of the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge, revealed Saturday that he'd made the decision to call off the competition among three teams - Soldier On (Australia and Canada), Soldiers to Summit (United States of America) and Walking With the Wounded (United Kingdom) - to reach the South Pole after five days.

The reason was due to safety concerns, as "it was becoming evident that there was a higher degree of stress imposed on the team members, due to unprecedented terrain on the plateau," Parker said.

Though the race has been called off, the trek is still on. According to TODAY, the teams are hoping to stand on the South Pole by Dec. 16. CNN reports that Parker even expects them all to reach the South Pole by Friday or Saturday of next week, and all of them will be at the finish "celebrating."

Another way we expect Prince Harry to celebrate is by reuniting with his girlfriend Cressida Bonas in London. The Daily Beast reports that Prince Harry should return from his trip just in time for Christmas, hopefully to enjoy the holidays with his girlfriend Cressida Bonas.

Recently, the media has speculated that Prince Harry and Cressida are getting engaged soon, with people taking bets that another royal wedding will occur next year. Perhaps we'll see a Christmas proposal happen once Prince Harry has finished up his charity trek?

Meanwhile, Prince Harry is joined by other public figures on the South Pole trek, including Swedish actor and "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard and Dominic West, known for his role as McNulty in "The Wire," CNN reports.
