Sony Xperia Z Review: 5-inch Device W/ Full HD Screen, 13.1 MP Camera, Up To 32 GB Storage, 7.99MM Slim W/ A Water-resistant, Dust-resistant Body; Still Expensive

Sony Xperia Z review: It promises that you’ll “experience the best of Sony in a smartphone” with the Xperia Z. The Sony device is touted as a handset that “blends durability and design.” It’s also water-resistant and dust-resistant body and has a camera at par with the best Android handsets. But with a price point of up to $504 for an unlocked version, the handset is still deemed expensive

SPECS
Some of the specs of the Sony Xperia Z include a 5-inch 1080P display with a pixel density of 443 ppi and a 7.9mm body. It also has the highly anticipated (at that time) 13MP Exmor RS camera sensor which allows for HDR video recording and a video recording feature that offer a 10fps burst mode at 9MP. T-Mobile notes that it’s ultra-slim, water-resistant and dust-resistant. Storage for the device is up to 32GB with MicroSD support. It has 2GB of RAM and a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor.

PROS
According to Phone Arena, a plus for the device is its very big and high-resolution display, extremely high pixel density, quad-core processor and lots of RAM. Not to mention, its water resistant. It also offers fast mobile data support and NFC for mobile payments. It has an HDMI connector with its microUSB support.

CONS
CNET though isn’t deeply impressed with it’s short battery life, slow camera, and the processor is “not as peppy as those found in other flagship phones.” The tech site also says that the glossy chassis of the Xperia Z attracts fingerprints easily. PCMag cites the mediocre call quality and the average battery life of the unit as downside for the Xperia Z.

T-Mobile offers the device starting at $0 for a contract and up to $499.99 for the unlocked version. A quick search at Amazon shows it ranges between $420-450 for unlocked versions. In terms of price, the Sony Xperia Z is definitely on the higher-end of the range.

VERDICT
Despite the hyper-attractive design of the unit and it’s impressive under the hood features, the price doesn’t justify a purchase. Based on reviews, the slow speed and short battery life is a huge minus for this otherwise physically attractive device.
