Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Update: Flagship Getting The Android 4.4.2 Update To Squash Bugs & Fix UI, Available OTA Directly From Google’s Servers

Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition: The flagship handset of the South Korean tech giant’s GPE variant is getting the Android 4.4.2 update according to Android Police. Galaxy S4 GPE owners have reported that they are receiving the new OTA update.

According to Android Police, the update was alluded to yesterday by Samsung when the company released a new set of kernel sources and framework files for the device. The firmware version referred to is I9505GUEUCML4, which is Android 4.4.2/KOT49H. The 4.4.2 update bring its it at par with current Nexus devices.

The Android 4.4.2 is designed to squash some bugs and correction for UI/UX errors for the unit. Some of the bugs fixed with the new OTA include SMS DOS errors, which essentially is a denial-of-service vulnerability. Other bugs that was seen in the first 4.4 KitKat include Hijacked sharing, Exchange mail, Seeking on the lock screen, Dialer issues and Status bar icons problems.

Similar to all OTA updates, it rolls out slowly and you can download the software update directly from Google’s serves and flash it manually, Android Police instructs.

Like new OS, the new 4.4 didn’t come perfect but with the Android 4.4.2, it hopes to fix some key errors in the platform.
Aside from the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is also receiving an Android 4.4.2 update as well as HTC One GPE editions.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is the current flagship of the South Korean tech giant preceded by the S3 and the refreshed S2 Plus.
