For being a d--- to Leonardo DiCarpio, Mark Wahlberg almost lost the role that launched his acting career in the movie "The Basketball Diaries".

Wahlberg, who used to be known as "Marky Mark" when he was a member of boy band "New Kids on the Block," claimed that the "Titanic" star used to hate his guts.  That almost cost him a plum role in the 1995 movie "The Basketball Diaries."

The film tells the story of Jim Carroll played by Leonardo DiCaprio who was a star of his New York Catholic boys school. On the side, he gets high with cleaning fluid with his friends, Mickey (played by Mark Walhberg) and Pedro (James Madio).

While critics were divided about the film, they did recognize the potential of Walhberg as a serious actor.

When told that Walhberg will star opposite him in the film, "Leonardo was like, 'Over my dead f------ body. Marky Mark's not going to be in this f------- movie," the "Max Payne" star told the magazine.

But he was quick to point out that the feud was his fault. "I didn't even realize it, [but] I was a bit of a d--- to him at a charity basketball game. "So he was like, 'This f------ a------ is not going to be in this movie.'"

When Mark Wahlberg auditioned for the role, however, Leonardo DiCaprio was impressed. Both men struck a friendship that continues to this day. Interestingly, Wahlberg was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the Oscars when he joined DiCaprio once again in the 2006 film "The Departed."

He also received the critics' attention when he starred opposite Christian Bale in the film "The Fighter" in 2010, about the true story of Irish boxer Micky Ward.

Walhberg will next star in the film "Lone Survivor," which is based on the true story written by US Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell regarding the failed mission dubbed "Operation Red Wings" in Afghanistan in 2005.
