Pokemon X And Y Mega Evolution: Kangaskhanite Banned By Smogon, Are Mega Evolutions Overpowered?

With the advent of Mega Evolution in Pokemon X and Y, some entities are taking action to limit their presence due to the fact that they may be overpowered.

As many Pokemon fans know, Smogon is an online resource for competitive Pokemon battling, and their tournaments often draw hundreds of participants.

Recently, a ban has been enacted by Smogon over the Mega Evolution stone Kangaskhanite from the competitive arena.

"Mega Kangaskhan, with an effective 213 base attack thanks to Parental Bond, is too powerful for even the bulkiest of OU physical walls. Mega Kangaskhan is nearly impossible to revenge kill outside of fast and powerful Fighting-types. Other Pokemon who outspeed are either OHKOed by a +2 Sucker Punch or too weak to break through its 105/100/100 defenses," said the announcement regarding the Pokemon X and Y Mega Evolution ban.

So far, opinions on the Smogon ban has been divided.

"Smogon has banned Kangaskhanite for being 'too powerful.' In other words it over powers their strict 'bow to the dragons' and 'if it can't swords dance it sucks' rules. Wow," wrote defensivebastiodon on Pokejungle.

"I'm pretty sure they have a good reason to ban it, or else it would be very ridiculous," added Pokemaniacmy.

Nevertheless, the move shows that some believe Mega Evolution to be overpowered and makes Pokemon battles uneven. But, in the competitive arena, especially with X and Y being released, hardcore trainers believe in testing their team against any opponent and not making excuses.

What do you think about Mega Evolution in Pokemon X and Y? Has it made Pokemon battles too unbalanced?
