J. K. Rowling Producing Harry Potter Prequel Stage Play And Film: Who Will Take Over Daniel Radcliffe's Role On West End Production?

The Harry Potter universe is ever expanding, and J.K. Rowling will bring the franchise to the West End by producing a stage play adaptation.

According to USA Today, the stage play will focus on Harry Potter before heading to Hogwarts, focusing instead on his family life with the Dursleys.

According to a statement by J.K. Rowling, the stage play will "explore the previously untold story of Harry's early years as an orphan and outcast."

J.K. Rowling will be co-producing along with Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. A writer has not yet been chosen.

Reportedly Callender and Friedman's pitch "was the only one that really made sense to me, and which had the sensitivity, intensity and intimacy I thought appropriate for bringing Harry's story to the stage. After a year in gestation, it is very exciting to see this project moving onto the next phrase.

This, of course, is not the only Harry Potter prequel that is forthcoming. J.K. Rowling will pen the screenplay to "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," featuring Newt Scamander.

"It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts,' realized by another writer was difficult," said J.K. Rowling.

"Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favorite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood."

Now the question becomes, who will take on the iconic role of Harry Potter now that Daniel Radcliffe has outgrown the role?

No word has come as to whether the casting process has begun for the stage play, but stay tuned for updates!
