Although she now is happily with John Mayer, Katy Perry is dealing with her dark past with ex-husband Russell Brand.

In a recent interview on the U.K. talk show "Alan Carr: Chatty Man," Perry admitted to having her "confidence kind of beaten down" during the split.

"I was going through a period where a lot of negative thoughts were entering my mind," Perry said to Carr, according to The Huffington Post. "It's a record of me going inside, and a lot of self reflection and figuring out like, where can I make areas of myself better, or what responsibility can I take?"

The "Roar" vocalist shared some methods she embrace while dealing with her divorce from the British comedian.

"I surrounded myself with my good friends, I did this whole cleanse where I didn't have any of the alcohol for three months -- that was devastating -- I did vitamins and supplements, and hikes and meditation and prayer," she said in the interview that airs today (Dec. 20th).

Perry being so open about her post-breakup reactions is nothing new.

"I was in bed for about two weeks," she told U.K.'s Sunday Times back in October.

Perry is even more descriptive about those two weeks in the January issue of Marie Claire.

"There were two weeks of my life after I found out the truth of my marriage where I was like, 'OK. All right. I can't feel this. This is too intense right now.' I was, like, just eating Flamin' Hot Cheetos and drinking, and that's it," she confessed to the publication.

Currently, Perry is seeing better days with her on-again singer boyfriend Mayer.

"We have a lot of fun," Perry said, during a joint interview with Mayer on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "You know, we have music as an understanding and love between each other and we connect. And you know, it's like he understands what I do because he does the same thing. And so after a long day if it's been tough I don't really have to go into it he just gets it. You know, so it's nice with that understanding."
