Downton Abbey Season 4 Christmas Special Spoilers: Did Bates Kill Anna's Rapist? Buckingham Palace Celebrates Lady Rose Coming Out, Daisy Mason Finds An Admirer

Downtown Abbey season 4 Christmas special spoiler alert!

The two-hour holiday special episode of the periodic ITV costume drama will unfold in the royal Buckingham Palace. Everybody has gathered to celebrate the coming out of Lady Rose, who is also seen dancing the first dance with the Prince of Wales.

In the new teaser, a radiant Lady Rose and finally smiling Anna Bates are shown travelling to London in a carriage. The family and servants take up residence at Grantham house and the outspoken Martha Levinson (Shirley McLane) makes another guest appearance along with her flighty son Harold, played by Paul Giamatti.

Amidst the frenzy is lurking the murderer of Anna’s rapist, could it be Bates? Will he be discovered, tried for murder and separated from Anna? Or could the murderer be his wife Anna or Lady Mary, both privy to the identity of the rapist?

Apart from the murderer, there is more in the cliffhanger episode, what with the introduction of the character of Freda Dudley Ward, the real life mistress of Edward VIII. So yes, there could be a royal scandal on the cards as well.

Freda Ward was married to MP William Dudley Ward and was in a relationship with Edward for five years, during which she was his confidant and closest female companion. The royal family is expectantly on the verge of one of the most notorious scandals, this time with the Crawley’s in tow.

In yet another surprise turn of events, the drab looking made Daisy Mason undergoes a slight makeover when she dons a jacket handed down to her by Anna. What more, the otherwise pretty maid also has a secret admirer, from whom she is shown receiving a note in the teaser. Who could be the secret admirer? Will Downtown Abbey season 5 see a more romantic side of Daisy Mason?
