The wily Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) will be showing his softer side when he goes out on a date when the season 6 of "The Mentalist" returns on Jan. 5.

But is the date for real, or the FBI agent has a hidden agenda?

Fans of the show will have a grand time guessing whether or not Jane is smitten with a new ladylove or just trying to do what he does best: fish for information from a subject while trying to determine whether she or he is telling the truth or not.

Knowing the former California Bureau of Investigation ace, everything is not what it seems at the surface.

Jane, after all, is investigating a series of murders involving DEA agents and his date happens to be involved in the case. Is she the killer or not? That's what the faux psychic is trying to uncover.

The official synopsis for episode 11 is this: "When several DEA agents are murdered, the FBI is assigned to find the killer, which sends Jane on a date with a gorgeous woman linked to the case."

With the death of "Red John," the notorious serial killer who was responsible for the death of Jane's wife and daughter, that story arc was already finished. This provides a little more leeway for the writers to expand the storyline a little bit more.

The Travelers Today reported that Brianna Brown of "True Blood" series will play the character of Krystal Markham who will become the subject of an investigation by both Jane and his partner Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and later on is seen on a romantic date with the detective.

Lisbon, who even helped pick the outfit for Jane, will also reportedly get a boyfriend of his own thereby putting fans, who are still hopeful the two will date each other, on the ringer.
