West Ham United will face off against rival Arsenal on Thursday, placing two of the English Premier League's closely followed teams against each other.

West Ham United, coming out of a 3-1 loss to Manchester United, is expected to be the underdog in the match.

West Ham United Manager Sam Allardyce is ready to wield the axe if stars fall short, The Telegraph reports.

"For some reason they got a bit scared of Manchester United - that is the sense I had and that was a great shame because they had no need to be scared. We have proved that we can beat anyone if we apply ourselves correctly," Allardyce said, according to the site.

"West Brom and Fulham are big matches. But everybody wants to play against the big boy and get a result."

Arsenal, coming out of a 0-0 tie with Chelsea, is expected to be the favorite in the match.

Arsenal Manager Arsène Wenger said the spirit of his players remains unbelievably focused despite going through a difficult patch, RadioSport.com reports.

"It took us a while - they came here to defend well and catch us on the break. You could see at the start of the game we were a bit edgy, and when we took control of the game in the second half we should have won it with the few opportunities we had," he said after the team's last match against Chelsea.

"It was a game of very few chances but the few opportunities we had, we couldn't take."
