Jared Leto playing a transgender woman in the new movie "Dallas Buyer's Club" may be the last time we see him on the big screen...at least for awhile.

Prior to "Dallas Buyer's Club," Leto was taking a hiatus from acting to concentrate more on his music career with his band 30 Seconds to Mars.

His break soon came to an end once he read and fell in love with the script for "Dallas Buyer's Club."

“I didn’t have any plans to make another film,” he said to Indiewire. “We were touring the world with 30 Seconds to Mars, playing in front of twenty, thirty, sometimes a hundred thousand people a night, and it was incredible. We were having the tour of a lifetime, and I got this script. I hadn’t read a script in a couple of years, but I read it and I fell in love. I thought, what an incredible opportunity.”

Leto added that his transgender part in the new flick is a "role of a lifetime." Movie critics seem to second that notion.

So far the Black Film Critics Circle gave Leto Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "Dallas Buyer's Club." There has also been speculation of an Oscar coming his way.

Nothing worthwhile comes easy because the role of a lifetime does center around a lot of controversy.

Some wonder why the role was offered to a cisgender male when transgender thespians are beginning to make a breakthrough in the industry.

However, Leto thinks it's great that actors aren't being type casted into roles that only correspond to their sexual identity.

“I think it’s wonderful for actors to be able to play roles that are outside of themselves,” Leto said to HuffPost Live. “That being said, you wouldn’t want to stick a transgender person with only transgender roles. So it goes both ways. That’s what makes art and acting really exciting is you get a chance to learn about other people and stretch and push yourself.”

Before "Dallas Buyer's Club," it was six years since Leto was in a movie. Although he plans to take another break after his current film, the actor/musician isn't opting out acting if another similar opportunity comes his way.

“If something as seductive came along, I would jump at the chance to have that opportunity,” he said. “But movies like this don’t come along that often. So we’ll see.”
